Love in the Wild – Season 2 Episode 4 – Recap – Week 4

Last week we had another round of trios. This time the guys got to choose between two girls. There was a bit of fireworks at last week’s couple’s choice ceremony, where we saw established couples Ben & Jenny and Jason & Cina go splitsville when the two guys opted for their new partners. The biggest story of the week though was the dramatic exit of Tara, who got screwed in more ways than one by her partner Jesse and declared him to be a “huge phony” as her parting shot when she was eliminated. In the end, six women headed home and this week we once again are back to six couples competing for the trip around the world and looking for love in the wild.

This week’s episode kicks off with two staples of reality television, gossip and drama. Last week’s fireworks between Tara and Jesse at the couple’s choice ceremony has everyone gossiping about how Jesse did the deed with Tara and then dropped her like a Bristol Palin reality show.

Ken weighs in on the subject suggesting that Jesse “did Tara dirty” and that a real gentlemen doesn’t treat a lady like that. He even goes so far as to suggest that he’s “gunning” for Jesse and wants him out of the game. Jesse, however, says that Tara knew what was up and he simply dropped her when he realized they had no romantic connection. Uh huh, that’s why you made sure she got eliminated by keeping her in round one and then dumping her in round two. Right Jesse?

Ali, who is Jesse’s partner this week, is a bit nervous knowing that Jesse and Tara did it, because she’s hoping he didn’t pick her because he thinks she’s “that kind of girl.” She assures us that she is not. She also pretty much just called Tara a slut. Poor Tara.

Most everyone seems pretty happy to have lost their third wheels and there’s lots of cuddling and kissing going on. Ben and Boobs McGee seem to be getting right friendly in their cozy cabin, while Yanina puts the brakes on when Ken tries to take things past the cuddling stage. Ken assures us that he’s totally ok with that though. Sure Ken.

Things aren’t going quite as well for Jesse and Ali back at the lean-to. In spite of all the fall out from the Tara incident, Jesse is already trying to get it on with Ali and she’s having none of it. Ali tells Jesse, in no uncertain terms, that he needs to get his hands off her. Now that Ali has proven to not be as loose as Jesse had hoped, I’m guessing he’ll be gunning for a more likely candidate in the near future. Boobs McGee perhaps?

The Adventure Challenge:

Jenny McCarthyThis week’s adventure challenge begins with Jenny McCarthy explaining to the contestants how relationships are like coconuts. Once you crack open that hard exterior shell, they’re either delicious or rotten. Plus they’re both generally a lot more fun when alcohol is involved. Just sayin.

This week’s challenge involves collecting 55 coconuts. They must then haul the coconuts down a long dirt road, where they will trade them for a horse. Then, they’ll take that horse to the top of a mountain, where they will find a map, which will lead them through the rest of their adventure.

Each couple will be issued a wheel barrow to help them transport their coconuts, however the wheel barrow is in pieces, so the couples must begin by deciding whether to take the time to assemble the wheel barrow or figure out some other way to transport their coconuts.

And they’re off! Right off there’s a little tension between Ken and Yanina, when Ken wants to just grab the wheel barrow and carry the coconuts without assembling it, but Yanina “keeps pestering” him to go ahead and assemble it. Ken ends up getting his way and they trek off carrying the wheelbarrow by handles instead of putting the wheel on. Yanina is miffed, because she says she knows how to put stuff together and Ken wouldn’t let her. I’m sensing if they don’t finish well that Ken isn’t getting past second base any time soon.

Ryan & Jenna and Summer & Chase take the same tactic, but without the bickering. Vanessa & Jason, Ben & Boobs McGee and Jesse the phony & not that kind of girl Ali decide to put their wheel barrow together before heading on their coconut run. Jesse & Ali are the last team to leave the coconut area due to Jesse’s insistence that they load up all 55 coconuts instead of making two trips like the other teams. Ali is pretty annoyed by his constant harping on her to make sure they have at least 55 coconuts before they leave.

Love and CoconutsJenna & Ryan end up being the first team to arrive at the horses and drop off their 29 coconuts. Summer & Chase and Ken & Yanina arrive just as Jenna & Ryan are heading back to pick up their second load. Meanwhile, Jesse the phony is struggling to push his overloaded wheel barrow down the road and ends up dumping the coconuts when the wheel comes off the barrow. He admits to us that he realized at that point that his insistence on doing it all in one trip was a big mistake. Surprisingly, he actually apologizes to Ali instead of being a gigantic tool about it.

Jason & Vanessa only ended up needing nine more coconuts, so they were able to ditch the wheel barrow and claim first place leaving the horse exchange. Ben & Boobs McGee leave in second place. Summer & Chase grab third. Jesse the phony’s plan ends up working out, as they avoid the second trip and grab fourth, which pleases Ali. She doesn’t want to end up at The Oasis with Jesse, but she doesn’t want to finish last either.

Summer & Chase manage to urge their horse on a little better than the other teams and grab first place, however it comes at a price as Summer shares that she thinks she “broke her va-jay-jay.” Maybe Ali can use that excuse to fend off Jesse tonight!

Their next task is to follow the map to a pair of ropes which they will have to use to cross a waterfall. Ali, who we learned in episode 2 is terrified of heights, starts freaking out as soon as she reads about the rope crossing on the map.

Love in the Wild - Season 2 Episode 4 - Recap - Week 4Ken & Yanina, Summer & Chase and Jenna & Ryan all pretty much arrive at the waterfall crossing at the same time. Jason & Vanessa and Ben & Boobs McGee are right behind them as they begin frantically scrambling across. So far, in spite of a few scares the teams all seem to be doing pretty well and are being supportive of each other.

Ali & Jesse arrive in last place and while Ali is doing a pretty good job of pushing through her fear, she’s not very appreciative of Jesse’s efforts to encourage her. In spite of her repeated requests for Jesse to give her some space, Jesse continues to be a bit too hands on for Ali. Looks like it’s going to be another lovin free night for Jesse.

Yanina & Ken are the fastest couple at the waterfall crossing and arrive at the next task in first place, but Summer & Chase are hot on their heels. In this task they will have to swim over to the entrance of a grotto behind a waterfall to retrieve a second map.

In spite of Yanina & Chase’s less than stellar swimming skills, strong swimmers Ken & Summer make short work of the task and the two teams exit the challenge in a dead heat, though Summer & Chase manage to pull slightly ahead. This contest is shaping up to be the closest race for first place so far this season. Jenna & Ryan are now in third place. Vanessa & Jason are fourth.

Summer & Chase follow the map to their next task, which is to follow a mountain trail to the upper falls, where they will retrieve a pole, machete and rope, which they will use to chop down 50lbs of bananas at a plantation further up the mountain and then transport the bananas back to the banana depot, where they will be weighed in. Once they have their 50lbs weighed in, it’s a footrace on to the finish line. Meanwhile, Jason and Vanessa hit a snag back at the waterfall grotto when, after retrieving the bamboo canister with the map in it, they accidentally lose the map in the water and are forced to go searching for it.

Ken & Yanina have caught up to Summer & Chase on the trail to the banana plantation and Ken urges Yanina to push ahead and try and grab first place. However, there’s more trouble in paradise as Yanina is not happy that Ken is so focused on finishing first that he’s not listening to her when she tries to tell him that they need to find the machete before they worry about beating Summer & Chase to the plantation. Thanks to their focus on racing each other, both couples end up walking right past the sign directing them to the machete, allowing Ryan & Jenna, who don’t miss the sign, to grab the lead.

Summer & Chase and Ken & Yanina both make it all the way to the plantation, which is a pretty good hike up a steep trail, before realizing their mistake and have to turn around and go back for the machete. Ken is now worried that Jesse is going to win and he’s not happy about that, because he wants him out of the game.

Boobs McGee & Ben are the second team to arrive at the machetes. Due to the snafu with the map, Jason & Vanessa have now fallen into last place, however things are looking up for them when Jason finally manages to retrieve the map from the water.

Thanks to Ryan’s insistence on trying to haul what his partner Jenna feels is way more than 50lbs of bananas back to the scale, Ben & Boobs McGee are able to grab the lead. Ali & Jesse the phony have managed to move up to third place and Jesse has devised the perfect banana pole strategy. Jesse always seems to have a plan for his pole.

Love and BananasRyan, on the other hand, is struggling with his pole and Jenna is not impressed with his “potty mouth.” To make things worse, Jesse’s pole expertise allows he and Ali to pass potty mouth Ryan & Jenna while Ryan is struggling to retrieve all the bananas he dropped. This bleep’s bananas Ryan. B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

Pole expert Jesse is pumped to be in second place, however he’s not doing any better with Ali, who is annoyed when after she comments about wishing they had the wheel barrow now, he responds with “we can do the wheel barrow later.” Her advice to Jesse is don’t tell me no sex jokes and keep your hands to yourself. I’m guessing that with at least a second place finish now imminent for Jesse & Ali, that we are going to get some major drama at the couple’s choice ceremony when he inevitably tries to steal someone else’s woman. Yay!

Because of having to backtrack to get the machete, Yanina & Ken and Summer & Chase have fallen from first to fourth and fifth. Much to Jason’s surprise, he and Vanessa arrive at the plantation while those two teams are still gathering bananas and he suddenly has new hope that he and Vanessa will manage to avoid a last place finish.

Ben & Boobs McGee arrive at the banana scale just ahead of pole expert Jesse & untouchable Ali. Ben is having a hard time figuring out how to get all his bananas on the scale, but thanks to his excellent banana pole plan, Jesse is able to easily get all his bananas weighed, because they are already tied to ropes. This catapults Jesse & Ali into first place as they race for the finish the line. Ben finally figures out the scale and they have their 50 lbs of nanners and take off in hot pursuit.

Ken’s, and possibly Ali’s, worst fears are realized when Jesse & Ali cross the finish line in first place, earning a night at The Oasis and more importantly, their pick of any of the other contestants at the couple’s choice ceremony. This is looking to be the most interesting couple’s choice ceremony yet and I’m sure Ken is going to be raising hell back at camp. Ali’s not thrilled at all about going to The Oasis with Jesse, but at least she didn’t try and sabotage the team like last week’s ill fated bitter, jaded Jenny.

An exhausted Ben & Boobs McGee finish in second place. Jenna & Ryan finish third. Yanina & Ken claim fourth. Summer & Chase squeak out a fifth place finish, while Jason & Vanessa end up in last. Jason & Vanessa get a bit of good news when Jenny lets them know that the lean-to is no more and they will instead be spending the night in a tent. They are of course happy at this turn of events, but still worried about potentially being eliminated from the game just when they were starting to make a love connection.

The Social Game:

Block head that he is, pole expert Jesse still seems to think he has a shot at nailing Ali at The Oasis. Chase is really down on himself because he feels like he messed up and not only allowed Jesse to win, but let down uber competitive Summer. Chase is worried that Summer is now going to lose interest in him.

Ben & Boobs McGee are still getting on well back at the cozy cabins. Ben tells us that they were both “cream crackered,” which apparently means tired. Vanessa & Jason are still really bummed about finishing last and possibly getting eliminated, but Jason is trying to encourage Vanessa to stay optimistic. She’s having a hard time with it, given that best case scenario is that they manage to stay in the game but end up with different partners.

No Nooki for JesseBack at The Oasis, pole expert Jesse is asking untouchable Ali if she’s into him at all “romantically”. Ali tells him that when he keeps pushing her out of her comfort zone that kills any potential romantic interest she might have had in him. Jesse is annoyed by Ali’s attitude and thinks she just wants a man who will do whatever she says. Ali tells him that isn’t true and reveals to us that Jesse is “like the one night stand that just won’t go away.” Ali is having a hard time even wanting to get to know Jesse and while she concedes that maybe he could be a really great guy (I doubt it Ali), she thinks he might be a really great guy for someone else. Ali tells Jesse that if he pushes her one more time she’s going to snap and then he’ll really think she’s a bitch. I think that ship has sailed.

Jesse tells us that he is starting to realize that he and Ali just don’t get along. Gee, ya think? He also tells us that she’s a real “Debbie Downer,” which obviously isn’t the kind of downer he was hoping she would be. Jesse is now pissed because he thinks Ali wasn’t honest with him and if she had been he might have stayed with someone else. In other words, he thinks Ali is a big phony. Ah, the sweet, sweet irony.

The next day, Ken & Yanina are still playing the happy couple, however Ken is worried that “trouble maker” Jesse is going to steal Yanina away from him and possibly knock him about of the game.

Jason & Vanessa are also hitting it off. Vanessa reveals to Jason that she recently had a change of heart about finding someone to settle down with when her father passed due to lung cancer. Jason is very touched that she shared this story with him and hopes they can keep their relationship going.

Jesse reveals to us that he’s going to leave it up to Ali to decide whether they should stay together and if she dumps him, he’ll then have to decide whether he wants to pick someone else or just go home. Things would obviously be a lot more interesting if he’d go ahead and take on the reality tv villain role and pick someone else, so I’m sure we all know which option the producers are rooting for.

Boobs McGee is happy with Ben and is hoping he will accept her offer to stay together.

The Couple’s Choice Ceremony:

Ali & Jesse are first up. Jenny reminds us that due to their first place finish, both Jesse and Ali can choose anyone they want and that person can not say no. Ali gets to pick first and before she can make her decision, Ken interrupts and annouces he has something he wants to say. Ken lets Jesse & Ali know that while they were off at The Oasis, some “real” relationships have been forming and he doesn’t want Jesse’s “calculating” game play to mess up the good thing that he and Yanina has. Way to put a target on your back Ken!

After Ken’s little outburst, Ali lets Jenny McCarthy know that she and Jesse have been fighting like cats and dogs, so it should be no surprise to anyone that she wants to switch things up. She chooses Ben and Boobs McGee is not happy. Not happy at all. Ben doesn’t seem thrilled about it either, but untouchable Ali looks like the cat who ate the canary. Perhaps she will emerge as the season’s new villain?

Now it’s Jesse’s turn. DUN. DUN. DUN! He begins by telling Jenny that a monkey wrench has been thrown into his original plan to ask Jenny to let him go to the unmatched area, but thanks to untouchable Ali’s villainy, he’s afraid if he does that his good friend Ben might lose his “connection,” so he chooses Boobs McGee. Either this will end up being the most boring possible outcome, or Jesse won’t be able to resist trying to put the moves on his mate’s bird and the fur will fly next week! Both Ben and Boobs McGee seem a bit worried that it might be the latter.

Ryan & Jenna are next and they stay together.

Ken & Yanina also stay together, but not before Jenny McCarthy has a chance to stir the pot by asking him about Jesse. Ken tells Jenny that he feels like Jesse has been a very strategic player and he was worried that Jesse would try and eliminate him as a strong competitor. This pisses Jesse off and he tells Ken that he doesn’t see him as competition at all and everything he has done has only been to try and get people together who might have a potential connection. When Ken asks him about Tara, Jesse declares her as “collateral damage” and reiterates that not only did he not have a romantic connection with her that she didn’t have a connection with anyone else there either and that’s why he set her up for elimination. He’s so noble. Ken isn’t buying it and beats around the bush about Jesse doing the deed with Tara, which prompts Jenny McCarthy to ask Jesse exactly what did happen with Tara.

Jesse continues to snipe with Ken and eventually admits that he had a “romantic encounter” with Tara, but that they didn’t hit it off and it’s really no one else’s business. Ken goes on to lecture Jesse about how he should find him a woman and try to make it work instead of messing with other people’s relationships. Jesse tries to play the martyr and claim he tried to “gracefully bow out” but Ken points out that Jesse didn’t actually bow out of anything, because he’s still there and now because of him Jason & Vanessa are probably going home. Ben finally gets tired of the bickering and says they both have points but should shut up about them. At this point, while I think Jesse is a complete tool, holier than thou Ken is starting to get on my nerves as well.

Finally, it’s Summer & Chase’s turn and they will be determining both their own fates and the fate of Jason & Vanessa with their choices. Summer tells Jenny that while it’s really hard to condemn Jason & Vanessa to elimination since they’re such a great couple, she feels like things are going well with Chase and she wants to stay with him. Chase accepts and reveals that he’s really falling for Summer. Not sure how this one is going to work out. I get the feeling that Summer is a lot more interested in staying in the competition than she is in Chase, but you never know.

Jenny lets Jason & Vanessa know that it’s the end of the road for them, but she hopes they will manage to continue their relationship after the show is over. They both say they’re going to try, but Jason doesn’t seem too optimistic about their chances. We close the show with Vanessa’s emotional revelation that she knows her dad was looking down on her and hopes he is proud of everything she has done. She seems like a nice girl and I hope she finds someone, even if she didn’t end up finding love in the wild.
Breaking Up is Hard to Do

Goodbye and Good luck!

Next week’s preview promises intense competition and not one, but two couple eliminations! It also promises more drama from Jesse and Ali, so make sure you tune in next week at 10 EST/9 CST for more Love in the Wild and if you’ve missed any of the previous episodes be sure and check out my other recaps.

Love in the Wild – Season 2 Episode 5 – Recap – Week 5

Week five of Love in the Wild begins with the fallout from the week four couple’s choice ceremony. Last week, Ali emerged as the biggest villain of season two by stealing Ben away from Boobs McGee. Boobs McGee managed to jiggle her way back into the competition when Ali’s former partner Jesse selected her in what he claimed was a noble attempt to keep Ben & Boobs McGee’s chance at love alive.

Both Ben and Boobs McGee are pissed about this turn of events, but Ali reveals to us that while she acknowledges staying with Jesse would have been better for everyone else, she is doing what is best for Ali. I can’t really blame her for trying to stay in the competition, but since the end prize is a trip for two, I’m not sure it’s really worth winning just to end up going on a trip with someone you can’t stand.

When Ali tells Boobs McGee that she thinks she could potentially have a connection with Ben, Boobs McGee tells her flat out that it ain’t gonna happen and reveals to the audience that she thinks Ali is a psycho. Furthermore, Boobs McGee assures Ali that the only alone time Ali is going to get with Ben will be when she’s sleeping, because Boobs McGee intends to stick to Ben like glue.

Ali, who thinks Boobs McGee is acting like a third grader, tells Boobs McGee to at least be respectful of the fact that she and Ben are partners and that she wants to approach this like a woman and not a bunch of backstabbing teens. As previously demonstrated by her towel thieving prank back in week three I suppose….

While Ali and Boobs McGee are cat fighting over Ben, Ken is attempting to continue the pissing contest he started with Jesse. Ken mouths off about what a snake Jesse is for banging Tara and then getting her eliminated from the contest and continues needling Jesse about how he’s been such a “strategic” player, which is apparently a bad thing to Ken. Jesse tells him that having a winning strategy is the whole point of the competition, but when Ken keeps prattling on Jesse tries to break off the conversation and go somewhere else. Ken won’t let things drop, even when Yanina begs him to quit arguing with Jesse.

The situation escalates after Ken accuses Jesse of trying to run away and Jesse tells Ken not to follow him or he’ll break a chair over Ken’s head. Ken immediately goes into “bring it” posturing and when Jesse turns around and heads towards Ken, Ben and Ryan intervene and tell everyone to cool it and go to their separate corners. The whole sequence pisses me off, because Ken’s douche bag attitude is starting to make me feel sorry for Jesse. Jesse has been a complete tool so far, but Ken’s insecurity and macho posturing is starting to become even more annoying than Jesse’s attempt to get all the ladies in the sack.

Ken & Janina - Love in the WildKen continues to be totally obsessed with Jesse and when he keeps going on to Yanina about how they have to beat Jesse & Boobs McGee in the adventure challenge so Jesse can’t exact his revenge by stealing Yanina away from Ken, Yanina tells Ken he should focus more on her and less on other people. I think that’s good advice that there is absolutely zero chance Ken is going to take.

The next morning, we find out that Ryan is feeling very ill but plans to try and tough it out, because he wants to get to know Jenna better and doesn’t want to get knocked out of the competition.

The Adventure Challenge:

Jenny McCarthy greets the five remaining couples and lets them know that relationships can be scary and this week’s adventure challenge is going to test their ability to deal with fear. Their first task on this frightful adventure will be to turn a canoe into an outrigger, using some bamboo poles and other provided supplies. They will then use a map to navigate to a set of rubbing stones, which will reveal a secret message. The first couple to cross the finish line who can recite the secret message, bring two special objects and tell Jenny how great her hair looks wins. I think that last part was a joke, but no one laughed, so I’m not sure.

And they’re off! Straight off, super-villain Ali is not impressed with Ben because he keeps asking her to do things, like tie knots in ropes, that she considers to be the man’s job. Ben’s goal is get back with Boobs McGee, so I doubt he really cares.

Chase is determined to not mess up this week and thus prove his worth to uber competitive gal pal Summer. Jesse is motivated to beat Ken, because he really pissed him off with his post ceremony bitch-fest the night before, but his new partner Boobs McGee is having trouble getting the life jacket on over her boobage.

Ben & Ali are the first to get their outrigger assembled and in the water. Ben says a bunch of stuff I could not understand at all, but I think the gist of it was that he hopes their early lead will translate into a win so he can get back with Boobs McGee.

Love on the RocksKen & Yanina are hot on their aft section in second place and Ken is still obsessing over Jesse. Ben & Ali’s lead is short lived, as they struggle to paddle their boat in the correct direction and they quickly drop to third behind Ken & Yanina and Chase & Summer. Jesse & Boobs McGee are paddling in fourth, but their partnership is literally on the rocks as they struggle to avoid crashing into the nearby cliffs. Boobs McGee is worried that with Ben’s team currently in third and her’s in fourth, their chances of getting back together at the couple’s choice ceremony are slipping away.

As Yanina & Ken begin struggling to get their boat going the correct direction, the frustration level brings out the bitch in Yanina (her words not mine!) and she and Ken are once again spatting about how best to accomplish a challenge. They appear to have fallen into second place behind Chase & Summer.

Ken’s nemesis Jesse has managed to wrest their boat off the rocks and get them going back in the correct direction. While Yanina is struggling to bail water of her team’s boat, Jesse & Boobs McGee paddle right past them and into second place.

Chase & Summer are the first team to reach the next challenge. They must trek up a path to a huge cliff with a set of rickety rope ladders leading down. They must then proceed one at a time down the cliff side using the rope ladder. Though Summer expresses some concern about climbing down the sketchy looking ladder, she & Chase both make it down without incident and continue on their merry way in first place.

Yanina uses her Spidey SenseJesse & Boobs McGee arrive in second place. Jesse’s desire to beat Ken motivates him to ignore his fear and head down the ladder, but much to his dismay, while he is waiting for Boobs McGee to do the same, Ken & Yanina arrive and Yanina begins her descent. Yanina provides a bit of comic relief by attempting to climb down both ladders at the same time, when she can’t stop her original ladder from spinning around in circles, but the technique works out for her and she makes it down ahead of Boobs McGee. Boobs McGee does finally get down the ladder and she and Jesse head out with a slight lead over Ken & Yanina.

Ryan’s illness is taking its toll and he and Jenna are dead last and still struggling to row their boat ashore. In spite of Ryan’s weak rowing effort, they manage to catch up to Ben & Ali, who appear to be more or less rowing in place. Ali is starting to regret her decision to choose Ben.

Chase & Summer are still in first place as they reach the next task, the rubbing stones. They have to pass through a cave filled with snakes and bats and ominous music, but none of that seems to phase them and they reach the rubbing stones without any issues the editors felt the need to include. Summer is impressed by Chase’s take charge attitude and reveals that she is starting to crush on him a bit. Jesse & Boobs McGee arrive at the rubbing stones in second place, Ken & Yanina are third.

Summer & Chase are the first to navigate their boat to a narrow canyon, where they are forced to get out and walk to the second rubbing stone. By contrast, Ben & Ali are the last team to arrive at the cliff, where we are treated to our third dose of Ali freaking out about her fear of heights so far this season. This time, there’s no soothing gestures or words of comfort from her partner as Ben is super annoyed by Ali further holding them up and basically just shouts unintelligible Benisms at her while she whines and carries on.

Jesse & Boobs McGee arrive at the second rubbing stone in second place, but Ken & Yanina are still right on their tail in third. Yanina’s bossiness on this adventure has Ken questioning whether he can “deal with this type of girl.”

Summer & Chase - Love in the WildSummer & Chase have now arrived at the next obstacle, which involves crossing a swamp on foot. The couple must slog through knee high mud and brave the multitude of snakes, crabs and assorted other creepy crawlies that populate the swamp. Once on the other side, they are confronted with a log filled with big hairy spiders and each member of the team must pull one spider out of the log. Chase reveals to us that he is terrified of spiders, but he doesn’t want Summer to think he’s a wussypants puddin’ britches, so he proceeds to snatch his spider out of the log. Summer & Chase successfully retrieve their spiders and sprint for the finish line. Summer is super impressed by Chase’s performance on this challenge and is starting to feel that he might really be the guy for her.

Spiders in hand, Summer & Chase cross the finish line in first place. After depositing their spiders in a box and reciting the secret message to Jenny McCarthy, Jenny reveals to them that the secret message means “There is no fear where love exists.” and they have now officially won the week five adventure challenge and a night at The Oasis. I guess the thing about Jenny’s hair was a joke. Haha!

Jesse & Boobs McGee reach the spider log in second place. Boobs McGee has no problems with creepy crawlies and she and Jesse proceed on to their second place finish without incident. Boring! Yanina on the other hand, does not like spiders and snakes and that is not what it takes to love her. Ken thinks Yanina’s freak out about the spider is “really funny.” I agree, but I’m not sure Ken hysterically laughing at Yanina as she runs down the beach squealing is going to improve his standing with her much. Ken however, has decided that while Yanina does drive him nuts at times and has that “latin temper,” he has decided that he needs that for his life. Ken tells us that he hates a dull woman and Yanina is definitely not that. Yanina almost allows all the spiders to escape. With much squealing and bleeped out cursing, Ken manages to wrangle all the spiders back into the box. Ken & Yanina recite the secret message and claim third place.

Ryan & Jenna reach the spider log in fourth, but thanks to Jenna majorly freaking out about grabbing the spider, Ben & Ali are able to catch up to them. However, after much squealing and spider fumbling, Jenna & Ryan manage to grab their spiders and race down the beach to claim fourth.

In the least shocking turn of events so far this season, turns out in addition to being petrified of heights, Ali is also scared of spiders, however she’s not nearly as afraid of them as Ben. Unlike Chase, Ben doesn’t try to hide his fear and delivers the first real belly laugh of the season when he starts speaking in some sort of weird tongues while trying to catch his spider. I managed to make out the phrase “spider man,” but not much else.

Ali is not impressed with his twitchy and “girly” behavior, but provides a bit of comedic value of her own when one of our eight legged friends climbs up her shoulder. If you missed this episode, you really should look for this bit when they post it nbc.com, because it’s truly hilarious. Eventually, they both manage to wrangle their spiders and claim their last place finish. Ben is totally pissed off and tells Jenny that he wishes Ali had just stayed with her partner instead of “messing everything up.” I really don’t know what Ben is so upset about. Unless Chase picks Boobs McGee, which doesn’t seem very likely or she fails to pick Ben at the couple’s choice ceremony, he’s going to be fine. It’s Ali & and Jesse who are going to have to do the scrambling and Ali is running out of options.

The Social Game:

Love in the Wild - Season 2 Episode 5 - Recap - Week 5Summer & Chase are celebrating with a lobster dinner at The Oasis. Summer thinks if there’s ever going to be a chance for romance with her and Chase, the time is now. She feels it is important for the man to make the first move. Are all these girls from like 1950? Chase is apparently thinking along the same lines though, because he lets us know that he needs to “grow some cajones” and let Summer know just how he feels. Eventually, Chase works up the courage to go for a kiss in the hot tub and Summer is impressed with his kissing prowess.

Back at the cozy cabins, Yanina is apologizing to Ken for yelling at him during the adventure challenge. They seem to be well on their way to kissing and making up. Ryan is still happy with Jenna, but we get a pointed shot of her packing her bags, so I sense trouble a brewin.

Meanwhile, tent dwellers Ben & Boobs McGee are cuddling in the hammock and Ben is bitching about his plight with Ali. Ben expresses his affection for Boobs McGee by giving her wood. Apparently, he collects little wooden turtles and presents Boobs McGee with one of his favorites as a token of his affection. Boobs McGee is thrilled with Ben’s turtle.

In spite of all the drama last week, Jesse tells us that he’s still deeply attracted to Ali and he thinks she wants him too deep down inside, but she just won’t admit it. I’m sure this has nothing to do with the fact that he knows Boobs McGee is going to dump him for Ben, so his only shot at staying in the game is to dump Boobs before she can dump him and select Ali or Jenna. However, it looks like Jesse is going to have to go sniffing after Jenna if he wants to save his neck, because Ali is not interested and she’s even less interested when she perceives that Jesse is blaming her for separating Ben and his Boobs. They end up in a huge argument and Jesse concludes that they ended up in worse shape than before his attempt to win her over.

Jenna shares with Ben that while Ryan is “growing on her”, she fears it may be in a friend way and not a romantic way and she doesn’t want to lead him on. Ben tries to talk her into sticking it out and giving his buddy Ryan a chance. Jenna isn’t convinced.

Love and Mud MasksSince they haven’t managed to win a night at The Oasis yet, Yanina decides to create her own little spa day for her and Ken, which is very cute. Ken doesn’t really seem like he’s much of a spa kind of guy, but he’s a good sport about the whole thing.

Back at the outdoor vanity, Ali isn’t making any headway with Ben. Ben tells us that he think Ali is a bit of a “black widow” and she has quite the mean streak. I mean, you remember when she stole all those towels! Ben uses this opportunity to bitch at Ali a bit more for picking him. Ali tells us that she really doesn’t give a flip that a guy of Ben’s “moral integrity” isn’t into her, but it is a bit of a blow to her ego that he prefers “blow up doll” Boobs McGee to her. She goes on to tell us that one of these days Ben is finally going to see “funbags” (now come on Ali, giving people cutesy names is just juvenile, Boobs McGee is a person!) without her makeup and realize she’s actually a man. I think Ben might have been right about that mean streak. In spite of Ali’s assurances that she’s not going to create any drama at the couple’s choice ceremony, Ben thinks she’s bonkers. I hope you’re right Ben.

Ryan tells us that he’s not really nervous, but Jenna is still not sure what she’s going to do. Since the most drama queen Ali can do is turn down Jesse if he still tries to pick her, it looks like Jenna is going to be the real wild card in tonight’s ceremony.

The Couple’s Choice Ceremony:

Summer & Chase are up first. They stay together. At Jenny’s prompting, Summer shares with the group that she and Chase shared their first kiss and it was awesome.

Jesse & Boobs McGee aka Funbags are up next. Jesse starts off by saying he would like to stay, but he knows there are several people who would say no to him, so he’s going to let his partner do the honor of sending him off to the unmatched area. Boobs McGee obliges and chooses Ben, who wastes no time in accepting her offer.

Yanina & Ken are next. Predicatably, they stay together.

Ryan & Jenna are next and Jenna is still looking pretty miserable. Jenny McCarthy reminds them that they can either stay together or save Ali or Jesse from elimination. Ryan thinks things are great with Jenna and asks her to stay with him, but just in case we were afraid there would be no drama at all at this ceremony, Jenna announces that she needs to “set something straight” before she answers Ryan. DUN. DUN. DUN!

Jenna tells Ryan that he’s one of the best guys she’s ever met and everything she could ever want in a guy, but in spite of that she’s going to have to friend zone him. In other words, it’s not you, it’s me, but really it’s you. Ryan is completely shocked. Per Jenny McCarthy, if four people end up in the unmatched area, all four will go home. She suggests Jenna & Ryan could just stick it out as friends and Jenna seems ok with that idea, but Ryan is looking all butt hurt and I don’t think he’s going to go for it. Plus seems like I remember them teasing a double elimination last week….

As I suspected, both of them end up in the unmatched area, thus providing Ali one last shot to be the drama queen of the week.

Ali now has to either choose Jesse or Ryan or go home. Ali tells Jenny that she feels like if she paired up with Jesse again, one of them might go home in a body bag. My money is on Jesse. We already know how devious Ali can be, thanks to the great towel caper of episode three! She thinks Ryan is a really great guy, but there’s no chemistry so she decides to head to the unmatched area. As promised last week, all four of the unmatched contestants will be headed home. Way to suck all the drama out of that one NBC!

Ryan is super pissed about getting blind sided by Jenna at the ceremony. Can’t say I blame him there. Jenna says she feels bad about that and about sending him “mixed signals.” Jesse is proud that he was “100% me” and he wishes that everyone else was the same and his biggest regret is not figuring out that Ali wasn’t a good match for him earlier on. Ali tells us that she thinks she kinda snapped and this experience has taught her that when she’s not matched with the right guy she can be a real “psycho bitch.” There is just so much wrong with that statement.

This week we say goodbye to pole expert Jesse, map forgetting Ryan, it’s not you, it’s me Jenna and all your towels are belong to us Ali. Sorry you didn’t find love in the wild! At least Jesse got laid.

The teaser for next week promises that the three remaining couples will be tested “like never before.” They also promise yet another twist. Yay! Tune in next week at 10EST/9CST for more Love in the Wild. If you’ve missed any of the previous episodes, be sure to check out my other recaps.

Heartbreak in the Wild

Love in the Wild – Season 2 Episode 6 – Recap – Week 6

I was out of town Tuesday, so running a bit late on this week’s recap, but here’s what happened on week six of Love in the Wild.

The Aftermath:

After last week’s double elimination, we’re down to just three couples who are still in the hunt for the ultimate prize. Summer was left feeling bad for Ryan, after his partner Jenna blind sided him at the couple’s choice ceremony, but Chase, realizing that the double elimination brought them that much closer to winning is pumped about what went down. However, Chase is also frustrated that he’s having trouble advancing things in the romance department because Summer is so focused on winning.

Ben & Boobs McGee are just feeling lucky and grateful to have survived one more week, but Ken & Yanina are hungry for the win and feel that their status as the only couple who has been together for the entire competition gives them an edge over their competitors.

The Adventure Challenge:

In this week’s adventure challenge the couples will get to use a GPS instead of a map to navigate the various obstacles on the course. Their first task will be to locate their GPS, which is hidden somewhere in the jungle behind Jenny McCarthy. Once they find the GPS, they will enter three different coordinates, which will take them to three different objects they will need to complete their adventure, one of which is a journal.

Jenny reminds the couples that the winner will get to spend the night at The Oasis and get a special reward, but that isn’t all. She advised them all to try extra hard to win this week, because there will be a special surprise at the couple’s choice ceremony. Must be that twist they promised us in last week’s teaser!

And, they’re off! Summer & Chase are the first to find their GPS, with Ken & Yanina hot on their heels. Summer is excited about using the GPS, because she thinks Chase’s experience as a former Marine will give him an advantage in this challenge. Yanina reads us a clue, which indicates the three objects they need to retrieve are an inner tube, a pump and a journal. Sounds like a fun weekend!

Yanina & Ken are the first to grab the inner tube. Ben & Boobs McGee are running last and struggling a bit to figure out their GPS. Things aren’t going as well for Summer & Chase as Summer had imagined they would and they are struggling to find their first item. Meanwhile, Ben & Boobs McGee are starting to get the hang of the whole GPS thing and are the second team to find the inner tube.

Ken & Yanina continue to work together well and grab the journal, making them the first team to collect all three items. Ben & Boobs McGee are in second place, as they snag the tire pump. Ben is struggling a bit with the GPS again, but Boobs McGee steps in and calms him down and gets their team back on track. Meanwhile, Summer & Chase have finally managed to collect their first item, the tire pump, but they need to really pick up the pace if they’re going to have any shot of winning this challenge.

Ken & Yanina - Love in the WildKen & Yanina and Ben & Boobs McGee have now collected all three items and are ready to move on to the next challenge. Per the instructions in their journal, they must now use the pump to fill up the inner tubes (bet you never saw that coming!), and then use those inner tubes to float down the river to the next trail. Both teams are pretty much neck and neck as they hit the river, but Ken & Yanina have a slight lead.

When Summer & Chase arrive at the inner tubes to discover there is only one set of tubes left, they realize they are in last place. Summer advises us that she is very disappointed in Chase and his failure to properly utilize the GPS. Looks like love in the wild isn’t unconditional. Chase is also feeling like he let Summer down, since GPS should have been his speciality.

Yanina & Ken are the first team to arrive at the next obstacle. For this obstacle, the couples must navigate quick sand in order to grab a leather scroll, which is suspended from some vines above the quicksand pit. They struggle a bit to make it through the quicksand, but once on the other side they make quick work of grabbing a scroll and head off to the next task in first place.

Ben & Boobs McGee are the second team to arrive at the sand pit. They manage to navigate the quicksand with a minimum amount of struggle, and a lot of cursing on Ben’s part, but since Ken & Yanina have already snagged the easiest scroll to reach, the next part is a bit more challenging. Ben makes an impressive leap out over the pit and successfully snags a scroll off one of the vines, but unfortunately for them, Summer & Chase have managed to close the gap and arrive at the pit just as Ben is struggling to make his way back out.

Summer & Chase - Love in the WildThanks to the vine that Ben knocked down with his pit dive, Chase is able to devise a strategy that saves his team a ton of time. Instead of struggling through the pit and then going back to get a scroll like the other two teams, Chase instructs Summer to stand on his chest, using the fallen vine to pull herself up and grab the last scroll. This plan works a charm and allows Summer & Chase to exit the sand pit right on Ben & Boobs McGee’s heels. Redemption for Chase!

Still in first place, Ken & Yanina have reached the next task. In this task they must climb a rusty ladder to reach a stone building and then use the scroll they retrieved from the sand pit to decode a message that will lead them to their next obstacle. Sounds simple right? Well, turns out the stone building is filled with live scorpions! Not only do the couples have to cross the scorpion strewn floor, but the actual message they must decode is also covered in scorpions. Ken struggles to decode the message and isn’t having much luck, but when he finally gives over and lets Yanina take a shot at it, she is able to quickly solve the puzzle. You go girl! The message instructs them to go down river and find a blue post. They must then search for a chest buried in the sand within five meters of the blue post.

Scorpions - Love in the WildBen & Boobs McGee arrive at scorpion cave in second place. After his freakout with the spiders last week, I was kind of surprised that Ben handled the scorpions so well. He struggles a bit to decode the message, but with Michelle’s help he is able to solve it and they head to the next task in second place.

Chase and Summer are relatively unphased by the scorpions, but struggle a bit to decode the message. Whatever ground Chase made up with his winning strategy in the sand pit seems to have been lost as Summer tells us that she was ready to strangle Chase and they were not working well as a team at all. Summer eventually decides to take charge and they finally manage to decode the message. However they have fallen even further behind the other two teams.

Yanina & Ken - Love in the WildKen & Yanina have arrived at the blue post in first place and immediately begin digging in the sand in search of the hidden chest. Yanina manages to locate a chest on her first attempt, but they struggle a bit to get it out of the sand. In spite of that, they manage to cross the finish line in first place and their impressive wire to wire performance on this challenge finally nets them a long awaited night at The Oasis. As a bonus, Ken wins some brownie points by impressing Yanina with his stamina and persistence during the challenge.

Ben & Boobs McGee are the second team to arrive at the blue pole. Ben manages to locate a chest and they are struggling to dig the chest out of the sand as Chase & Summer arrive at the beach. Summer & Chase manage to quickly locate a chest, but Ben gets his team’s chest out of the sand first and he and Michelle win the foot race down the beach and claim second place. That leaves Summer & Chase as the last team to arrive and Summer is pretty much laying the whole thing at Chase’s feet and expresses that she doesn’t feel like he pulled his weight during this challenge.

The Social Game:

Love in the Wild - Season 2 Episode 6 - Recap - Week 6Yanina & Ken are thrilled to finally get a night at The Oasis. Ken is convinced that Yanina is the girl for him and Yanina thinks Ken is the man she always dreamed of. Yanina tells Ken that even if they don’t win, she feels like she is still a winner. Awww!

Back at the cabins, Summer is still irritated with Chase due to his performance on the adventure challenge and she’s being pretty sulky about it. She heads off to bed and leaves poor Chase to eat his dinner with Ben & Boobs McGee. Chase shares with them that he knows he disappointed Summer, but he’s just not sure how.

Ben & Boobs Mcgee are getting on well and Ben decides to surprise Michelle with a picnic on the beach the next morning. Michelle tells us that she’s normally not the kind of girl to make such a quick connection with someone, but that she thinks things are going really well with her and Ben. Ben thinks Michelle is “brilliant” and is enjoying every minute he has to spend with her.

Chase decides to try and cheer Summer up by creating a scavenger hunt for her. He sets up a bunch of clues that lead her to all of the places that have special memories for the two of them. Summer is impressed by the amount of work that Chase put into the hunt and starts feeling bad for “being such a poopy pants” about losing the adventure challenge. She notes that her family always questions why she dates guys that don’t treat her very well and thinks they would love Chase. At least she realizes what a sore loser she was being, but I’m still not convinced she’s really all that into Chase.

The Perfect Date - Love in the WildKen & Yanina’s reward for finishing first is a dune buggy ride. The two of them have a blast racing around the beach and Yanina tells us that Ken makes her feel “like a little girl.” Ken thinks their date was a ten, but Yanina disagrees and says it was an 11. Yay!

Meanwhile, back at the cabins, Chase & Summer are telling Ben & Boobs McGee about how they feel they have made a real connection and how they think the last three remaining couples are all there for “the right reasons.” Ben isn’t buying it. He tells Summer & Chase that it seems to him that they have been much more focused on winning the challenges than on finding love in the wild. Fight! Fight!

Summer is totally pissed by Ben’s accusation that she and Chase don’t have a genuine relationship, but Boobs McGee still thinks she and Ben are much more deserving of being in the finale than Chase and Summer. Ben suggests that it’s just silly for a couple that is supposed to be looking for love to get all pissy because someone can’t “hit a mask with a coconut.” Summer fires back with a suggestion that Ben & Michelle don’t seem suited for each other at all and their whole relationship is just weird. So much drama!

Everyone is nervous about what the latest twist is going to be at the couple’s choice ceremony.

The Couple’s Choice Ceremony:

The big twist this week is that instead of having the normal couple’s choice ceremony, they are going to test the couples on how well they know their partners….Newlywed Game style!

Jenny McCarthy - Love in the WildJenny McCarthy will ask the three remaining couples seven questions. If the two partners come up with the same answer to the question, they get a point. The couple who finishes with the most points will get a thirty second head start on the next adventure challenge. Because Ken & Yanina finished first in this week’s challenge they start the game with one extra point. Jenny warns the couples that they do NOT want to finish last, but doesn’t tell us what happens if they do.

Here’s how it went down:

Question 1: What would your partner say is your best physical trait? (posed to the ladies)

Yanina: Butt Ken: Eyes – Jenny thinks Ken was just trying to be romantic

Boobs Mcgee: Jugs Ben: Jugs – well duh!

Summer: Booty Chase: Butt – Summer points out that her booty is still firm & tight with no ripples. She’s so humble!

Round One Score: All teams tied at one point each!

Question 2: What is the one thing that you haven’t done with your partner yet, that you would like to do? (posed to both)

Ken: Get more intimate Yanina: Done It – their tenses don’t match, but their intentions do, point for Ken & Yanina!

Ben: go to Oasis as a couple Boobs McGee: travel – wah, wah, wah!

Chase: Zip Line Summer: Zip Line – I agree with Ben on this one “what the hell?” but they get a point!

Round 2 Score: Ken & Yanina and Summe & Chase tied at 2, Ben & Boobs McGee – 1

Question 3: What will your partner say is the most annoying thing you do in bed at night? (posed to the ladies)

Yanina: puts lime on her body (to keep mosquitoes away) Ken: puts lime on her body – another point!

Boobs Mcgee: can’t keep her hands off Ben Ben: won’t let him sleep – they give them the point, because Michelle said she won’t let Ben sleep when explaining her answer

Summer – wear a cover over her face Chase: wear a shirt over her face – they get the point!

Round 3 Score: Ken & Yanina and Summer & Chase still tied at 3 points, Ben & Boobs McGee – 2 points

Question 4: Who is a better catch between the two of you? (posed to both)

Yanina: Ken Ken: Yanina – sweet, but no points!

Boobs McGee: Me Ben: Michelle – the boobs have it – point!

Chase: Summer Summer: Me! – Summer claims her answer was because Chase is so nice that she just knew he’d write her name down, but we all know she thinks it’s true.

Round 4 Score: Summer & Chase grab the lead with 4 points, Ken & Yanina and Ben & Boobs Mcgee tied at 3 points

Question 5: Between the two of you, who is more materialistic? (posed to both)

Ken: Yanina Yanina: Ken – uh oh! no point

Ben: Michelle Boobs Mcgee: Michelle – point!

Chase: Summer – because she’s a girl Summer- Chase because he’s from Cali – uh oh! no point

Round 5 Score: Summer & Chase and Ben & Boobs McGee are tied for the lead at 4 points, Ken & Yanina have 3 points

Question 6: Other than you, which contestant is your partner most attracted to? (posed to the guys)

Ken: Ben – he’s a heartthrob Yanina: Ben – it’s not true, but she knew Ken would say that cuz he has a man crush on him – point!

Ben: Ken Boobs McGee: Ken – hmmm a Love in the Wild foursome? - point!

Chase: Ken Summer: Ken – everybody loves Ken! – point!

Round 6 Score: Ben & Boobs Mcgee and Summer & Chase still tied at 5 points, Ken & Yanina – 4 points

Question 7: Which of you is most eager to settle down and start a family? (posed to both)

Yanina: Me Ken: Me – uh oh, that means they will definitely finish in last place :(

Boobs McGee: Me Ben: Michelle – point! now Summer & Chase must get the question right to maintain the tie

Summer: Both Chase: Summer – Summer’s bonehead answer means Ben & Boobs McGee are the winners! She better hope Chase takes losing better than she did….

Jenny McCarthy congratulates Ben & Boobs McGee on winning the 30 second head start and assures them it will be crucial in the next challenge. She also congratulates Summer & Chase for finishing in second place.

Jenny then calls over Ken & Yanina and tells them that unfortuantely their last place finish means they will be going home. Everyone is shocked, but it turns out to be a big fake out and since two couples left the week prior, no one is going home!

Winning first place next week will be super important because the winning couple will get the biggest advantage yet and will play a major role in determining who stays and who goes. Exciting!

It’s looking like Summer & Chase better win, because it seems likely they will be headed home otherwise.
Still in the Race - Love in the Wild

Turn those frowns upside down!

The teaser for next week promises that they have saved the biggest twist for last! The couple who finishes in first place gets to choose which couple will be headed home! With only two episodes left to go, you don’t want to miss it, but if you do, be sure to stop by and read my recap and find out who will be heading to the Love in the Wild finale!

Love in the Wild – Season 2 Episode 7 – Recap – Week 7

Last week, on Love in the Wild, instead of the usual Couple’s Choice Ceremony, we had a fun “couple’s compatibility” trivia game. Ben & Boobs McGee were the winners, giving them a 30 second head start in this week’s adventure challenge. Winning the challenge is extra important this week, because the winning couple will get to determine who stays and who moves on to next week’s season 2 finale.

The Aftermath:

Boobs McGee is not surprised at all that she and Ben won the trivia challenge, even though they have been together the least amount of time because she feels like they have connected the most of all the couples. Plus they’re both really into her jugs. Common interests are important!

Yanina is getting nervous with the end so near, but Ben is just really happy to have not only made it this far in the competition, but to have found a partner that he likes so well. Awwww!

Ken & Summer are totally focused on winning the trip around the world, but Chase is just worried about his adventure with Summer potentially coming to an end.

Everyone but Ben seems to think the 30 second head start is a huge advantage. Chase is just glad that Ken & Yanina didn’t win the advantage because he thinks “we’d never see them.” I’m kind of with Ben on this one. Sure 30 seconds is huge in say a Nascar Race or an Olympic Sprint or something, but can it really make that much difference on one of these challenges? I guess we shall see! (Side note: Ben has some really cool tats and I just don’t think we’ve had nearly enough shirtless Ben this season.)
Shirtless Ben - Love in the Wild

Enjoy!

The Adventure Challenge:

Jenny starts the contestants off by asking the boys if they think their women are gold diggers. Ben says that he ain’t sayin Boobs McGee is a gold digger, but he sure hopes she ain’t, cuz he’s broke, broke. Jenny McCarthy hopes they all are, because on this week’s challenge, they will be digging for gold, or at least some bricks covered in gold paint!

The contestants’ first task will be to assemble the five pieces of a treasure map, which will lead them to one of three different treasure chests. The first couple to bring Jenny one of the chests wins! Sounds simple enough. However, the five pieces of their map are scattered in five different locations and the teams will have to follow a diagram to locate the first two pieces, which will then direct them to the remaining three.

The first place couple wins both a guaranteed spot in the finale and gets to choose who their competition will be at the Couple’s Choice Ceremony. Obviously, the stakes are high this week.

And they’re off! Everyone but Ben & Michelle has to wear a blind fold during the 30 second head start. Ben immediately starts freaking out, misreads the map and the 30 second head start is more or less squandered.

While Ben & Boobs McGee are busy running back and forth checking the map, Ken & Yanina quickly make their way to their first map piece. Yanina comments that Ken is super competitive and pushes her to her limits, but she kind of likes that.

Summer & Chase are in second place and Summer is letting Chase take the lead on this challenge. Ben & Boobs McGee are still struggling, but finally manage to grab their first map piece.

Ken & Yanina are the first team to assemble the first two map pieces, which direct them to go down a dirt road, pick up a horse and take it to a trail which will lead them to the remaining three pieces of their map. Summer & Chase are in second place and Ben & Boobs McGee are still last.

Ken & Yanina arrive at the horses just a few seconds in front of Summer & Chase, but they are both riding their horses like they stole em. Summer & Chase take off at a somewhat more leisurely pace, complicated by the fact that Chase ended up with the smallest horse.

Ben & Boobs McGee are the last couple to reach the horses and Michelle ends up with the opposite problem of Chase, as she picks out the biggest, “craziest,” horse. As a result, while Ben’s horse appears to be just plodding along, Michelle’s is off to the races, whether she wants it to be or not. I bet that made for some impressive jiggle.

Thanks to Boobs McGee’s Kentucky Derby hopeful, she actually catches up to the other teams, but Ben’s slow poke horse keeps them in last place. Ken & Yanina manage to maintain first, with Summer & Chase close behind them.

The remaining three pieces of the map are in three different locations and the teams get to choose which location to tackle first. Their choices are a cave, a clifftop and an alcove in the water. Summer & Chase and Ben & Boobs McGee opt to tackle the cave first, while Ken & Yanina head for the cliff. All the setbacks on the adventure so far have Ben on the edge of a nervous breakdown, but he’s hopeful they will be able to make up some ground on the next leg of the adventure.

Love in a CaveSummer & Chase are the first team to arrive at the cave, which is full of identical scrolls they must search through to find their map piece. It totally looks like something out of Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone. I bet Hermione would have had that scroll in no time! Depending on what the other tasks are, it is looking like Ken & Yanina’s strategy may pay off as a lot of the wrong choices will already have been eliminated by the first two teams by the time they arrive. After a bit of frantic scroll reading, Summer manages to locate the map piece and they leave the cave before Ben & Boobs McGee arrive.

Meanwhile, Ken & Yanina are tackling the cliffs. For this task, one of them, Ken in this case, must scale down the side of the cliff with the aid of a harness and some sketchy looking metal rungs. Yanina thought it was a very scary task, but Ken tells us it was a piece of cake. Yanina was duly impressed with Ken’s bravery.

Ben & Boobs McGee have left the cave and are making their way to their next task. Michelle is trying hard to maintain a cool head, because she knows that if she loses it, Ben is going to freak out even more than he already is. She’s having limited success and Ben’s constant freaking out is starting to be frustrating for both of them.

Ken & Yanina - Love in the WildSummer & Chase tackle the cliff next and Chase has a bit of trouble locating the map piece, but not too much and they are soon on their way to the third and final task. Summer was really impressed by Chase’s fearlessness.

Yanina & Ken have moved on to the cave, where arriving last doesn’t seem to be as big an advantage as I had thought it might be. Ben & Boobs McGee arrive at the cliff ladder some time after Summer & Chase have left.

Ken & Yanina appear to still be struggling to find a map piece in the cave as Summer & Chase arrive at the final location on the beach. Yanina finally locates the map piece, but she and Ken both fear they have fallen way behind.

At the final location, the couples must search the ocean water to find a piece of map floating in a bottle. Summer & Chase become the first team to grab the final map piece, just as Ben & Boobs McGee arrive a the beach.

Boobs McGee is convinced that Ben is looking in the wrong place, so she strikes out on her own and ends up finding the bottle. Before she can show Ben what she has, he flips out on her for not following his instructions and she’s understandably pissed and chucks the bottle at him.

Summer & Chase are the first team to assemble their completed map, which directs them to a banana plantation, where they will find the three hidden chests. Michelle & Ben are running a close second and Yanina & Ken arrive at the beach after both the other teams have left.

Ken thinks that’s bad news for his team, as Yanina is not a strong swimmer, but Ken is impressed with Yanina’s resolve and they manage to find their final map piece pretty quickly.

Ben is still not listening to Boobs McGee and she’s getting really frustrated with his frantic behaviour. Things are going much better for Ken & Yanina, who have managed to close the gap and luck upon a chest almost immediately upon arriving at the plantation, netting them the lead once again.

Summer spots Ken racing by with chest in hand and immediately her hopes of victory are dashed. Chase tries to remain optimistic and they do manage to become the second team to find a chest, but at this point unless Ken & Yanina get incredibly lost or fall down and break a leg or something, it looks like the game is over.

Fortunately for Ken & Yanina, neither of those things happens and they win the challenge and claim their place in the Love in the Wild finale. They also get a night at The Oasis and they get to choose which of the other two couples will go with them to the finale and which will go home. I can’t imagine any reason they would want to choose Summer & Chase, who are always strong competitors over Ben & Boobs McGee, but I guess we’ll see. Summer seems to think she and Chase are better friends with Ken & Yanina, but also strong competitors, so she’s not sure which way they will choose.

A very bedraggled Ben & Boobs McGee finally cross the finish line in last place. Jenny McCarthy takes this opportunity to rub their noses in the fact that they had a 30 second lead and blew it. I still maintain that 30 seconds just wasn’t all that big an advantage in this kind of challenge.

The Social Game:

Over at the cabins, Ben is apologizing to Boobs McGee for being such a derp during the challenge. Michelle claims that she isn’t mad at him, but she clearly is. However, she thinks that if they can make it through the frustrations of these challenges, that bodes well for their chances as a couple in real life. Ben thinks they are a good match because he spazzes out all the time and Michelle calms him down.

Summer is telling Chase that she thinks if Ken makes the “smart” move that he’ll pick Ben & Boobs McGee, but if he’s a “cool guy” he’ll honor their friendship and pick Summer & Chase. Because I’m sure if the situation was reversed that uber competitive Summer would totally “honor their friendship” and pick Ken & Yanina….right?

It’s all good for Ken & Yanina at The Oasis. They get to relax knowing that they have a spot in the finale and they get to choose who they go up against. They are sitting pretty. Ken mentions that it’s going to be hard if they don’t pick their friends Summer & Chase and that he likes the idea of going up against their toughest competition.

Yanina, however, thinks pitting herself and her pitiful swimming skills against former Olympic hopeful Summer isn’t a fair competition and she seems to be leaning towards choosing Ben & Boobs McGee. Personally, I’m with Yanina on this one. I mean usually on these competition shows I’m all about wanting to see the best go against the best, but in this case I’d rather see the two couples who seem to have the most genuine shot of sticking together when the show is over go to the finale. Plus Ben is a lot more amusing and pretty than Chase.
Love in the Wild - Season 2 Episode 7 - Recap - Week 7

More Shirtless Ben plus Jugs!

Ken is all, when I compete against someone I want to pick the biggest, strongest guy and kick his ass! Yanina thinks that’s just dumb and I agree. She points out that this show supposed to be about finding love and then winning the trip around the world to take with that loved one, not just winning some reality show competition. I’m totally on the same page as Yanina here. I mean I like a good competition as much as anyone, but ultimately the point is to win, so why not give yourself your best chance to win?

Since they can’t seem to agree, they decide (with some urging from the producers I’m sure) to go talk it over with the other two couples and see how they feel. Yanina jumps straight to the drama by asking Summer & Chase if the two of them are “an item.”

Summer immediately gets defensive and she’s angry at how everyone has dubbed them the “competitive couple.” Ben fires back that everyone didn’t dub them that, it’s just how they behave.

Summer implies to the camera that Ben & Boobs McGee’s connection is limited to the bedroom, while Ben compares Summer & Chase to a couple of extreme sport junkies. Summer also takes this time to try and suggest to Ken & Yanina that just because she’s a good swimmer doesn’t mean that she’s going to be the best athlete or toughest competition.

The next morning, Ken & Yanina are talking over their discussion with the other couples the night prior. They both seem to feel that Summer & Chase don’t seem like much of a couple, while Ben & Boobs McGee seem to have a much better connection. Ken is starting to waiver in his decision to favor Summer & Chase and Yanina is also having second thoughts, thinking maybe they are underestimating Ben & Michelle as competitors.

The Couple’s Choice Ceremony:

Jenny McCarthy calls Ken & Yanina to the front of the room, but before she asks for their decision, she gives the other two couples one last chance to plead their case.

Chase tries to play on Ken’s competitive nature by suggesting that if they pick them they’ll push hard all the way to the end and it will be an exciting competition. Summer plays the friendship angle by telling them that no matter what they really love them, which makes Yanina cry.

Ben says that he doesn’t want to bash Summer & Chase’s relationship, but he feels like his relationship with Boobs McGee is more romantically inclined, while Summer & Chase’s is more of a friendship. Boobs McGee says that she really feels a connection with Ben and wants to spend as much time with him as possible.

Yanina is in tears over the prospect of having to send two of their “good friends” home, but the moment of truth has finally arrived.

The couple that will be joining Ken & Yanina in next week’s finale is: Ben & Boobs McGee! Yay!

Jenny wants to know if the competitive nature of Summer & Chase played a role at all in their decision. Ken says it definitely did and he’s glad he won’t have to face them in the finale. Summer seems a little annoyed and tells him it would have been exciting and that she really does like the two of them.

Chase adds that there really is a connection between him and Summer and that this will continue after the show is over, so he can’t hate them for their choice. Both Summer & Chase claim they will continue dating after the show when questioned by Jenny, but they don’t sound very convincing.

Summer tells us that she’s disappointed to not make the finale, but the whole experience has been great and she’s super glad to have met chase and feels they will be forever bonded.

Chase tells us that after the woman he thought he would marry left him while he was overseas in the military, he never thought he’d find love again. However, he thinks he has found that with Summer and is going to find a way to make the East and West Coast closer together.

We are treated to a little montage of Summer & Chase’s best moments on the show and told that Summer & Chase are still in fact dating and that he’s even met her parents and she’s making plans to move to California to be closer to him. I guess we were all wrong about them!
Summer & Chase - Love in the Wild

Good luck Summer & Chase. I hope you found Love in the Wild!

This is the finale I was hoping for, so I’m pretty happy with how things turned out. I’ve been really impressed with Summer’s athletic performance during the challenges, but Yanina & Ben have both really grown on me and I find them much more entertaining than Summer & Chase. Plus there’s bound to be more shirtless Ben!

Tune in next week for the exciting season finale and find out whether it will be Ken & Yanina or Ben & Boobs McGee who wins the trip around the world! Be sure to come back for my recap of the final episode of season 2 of Love in the Wild!
